Ashraf will be leading the talk on OpenGL & NDK for cross-platform development and how C++, OpenGL and Android don't get along. The emulator doesn't support OpenGL and trying to debug C++ is a real pain. This talk will walk you through the battles you'll face trying to develop with OpenGL and C++ on Android, as well as how to architect your software to use C++ and OpenGL to allow for developing your application across platforms. So you can debug your Android applications on your desktop, then deploy them on Android or iPhone.

Recently, HTML5 has been receiving a lot of attention as a technology that can be used to develop offline web-based applications. However, this is not the only means of creating cross-platform mobile apps. In this session the author will introduce and demonstrate Meme IDE, a development platform that can create native application code for the Android and WIndows Mobile platforms from a single project.

During the Apps for Good course, students go through a kind of entrepreneurial process whereby they identify what is wrong with their world before designing a way of fixing it with a mobile app. We combine a broad range of areas in the course, giving young people a foundation in entrepreneurship, community involvement, problem-solving and team work, as well as design and some technical skills.
