Native semantics are king when it comes to web accessibility. They provide the out-of-the-box compatibility with a range of assistive technologies. However, the web commonly balks standards. There are no native accordions or tab panels tags, for example. ARIA (accessible rich internet application) seeks to address this. Well implemented, it can dramatically boost a websites accessibility. Poorly implemented, it can make matters much worse.
